There’s a famous quote – “behind every great man is a great woman.” How about we change that to “behind every women-owned brand are many women collaborating to make the vision a reality?”
We speak about the importance of buying women-owned products, which also extends to utilizing women-owned professional services and shopping at women-owned retail stores.
In celebration of Women’s History Month, we took inspiration from our 2024 Pitch Competition winner, Unbothered Food’s Instagram page. We asked some of our founders to name the women behind their brands.
Here are their answers.
Katie Melnick of Fizz Creative
“Katie was a blessing as a mentor when it came to improving our packaging design. We went from ugly duckling to a shelf ready swan! We did our packaging in house, it would not have been possible without Katie’s guidance.”
Saidah Farrell, Joy Craft Cocoa
Rachael Turner, Rosemint Media
“I had the opportunity to work with Rosemint Media for my website, and they were an excellent resource in bringing Boozy Treats to life online. Their expertise and support made a huge impact, and I highly recommend them!”
Bettina Slaughter, Boozy Treats
Emma Rose Milligan, Photographer
“Emma Rose Milligan has been instrumental to our creative direction and we are so lucky to have her on our team. She is an incredibly talented photographer and creative who shot our launch party and is working on an upcoming shoot as well.”
Veronica Panzardi, Edggies Veggies
Ana María Romero Mena, Master Distiller
“She is responsible for creating our impeccable taste profiles. She is the artist behind Inspiro Tequila.”
Mara Smith, Inspiro Tequila
Amity Tripp, Amity Coaching
“She is my business coach, and has truly invested in me as a founder. She not only motivates and challenges my business strategy, but also invites me to incorporate rest and personal development in my daily life so that I can be a well-rounded biz owner. I hit the jackpot with her as a coach.”
Ashley Sutton, Hustle and Hope
Isabella Sanchez Castañeda, Isa Media, Inc.
“I've worked with Isa Media Inc for a variety of marketing related needs, but the work she did with me on my podcast has led to speaking engagements, corporate event orders, and other amazing opportunities because of the processes she teaches and the support she gives. Her long form lab is helping me prepare some engaging and helpful content that will help me lead people to my products while also building awareness of the need for them. I can't recommend her enough.”
Morgan Reid, A Little Mental
The Enthuse Foundation has been an AMAZING resource as I build my CPG start-up. In terms of brand exposure and experience, I was given the incredible opportunity to showcase my product to two very different audiences, giving me insight and confidence that would take weeks to replicate (in having to go door-to-door)! Additionally, meeting other incredibly inspiring female founders has opened many doors, given me ideas and connections to grow my business!
Marina Gabriela Brink, CHEETS
Jill Frechtman, Brand Strategist
“She has been an incredible mentor and advisor. Jill owned a chocolate-covered pretzel business called Fretzels so she truly understands everything that goes into being an entrepreneur. She has guided me through product development issues, brainstormed scrappy marketing ideas, and even came to store demos to support me. Jill has a wealth of knowledge and is generous in sharing it. I'm so grateful for her.”
Kimberle Lau, Bake Me Healthy
Women-Owned Retail Stores
“I’m so incredibly grateful to the following women-owned stores, bars, and restaurants that have been incredible supporters of JONI - Willoughby General owned by Lauren Crawdrey, Beer Witch owned by Christa Sobier, Sawa co-owned by Samaya Boueri Ziade, Big Night owned by Katherine Lewin, Locavore Variety Store owned by Caroline Weaver, Vinal General Store owned by Sarah Murphy, Wallace Dry Goods owned by Robin Cummiskey, Monger’s Palate owned by Carol Johnson, and La Salumina co-owned by Eleanor Friedman.”
Claire Matern, JONI
Bottom line: We should practice what we preach. Hiring other women not only reinforces the importance of supporting women-owned brands, but it also ensures your brand is supporting gender equality in the workforce. When women lift each other up, they create opportunities for mentorship, career advancement, and a more inclusive workplace culture, ultimately contributing to the success and sustainability of ALL women-owned businesses.
